Alicia Machado was born Yoseph Alicia Machado in Maracay Venezuela 6 December 1976. Alicia has a mixed background. Her parents are both of Cuban descendance. Her career has included a significant character in films, television and beauty contests all her life. Alicia Machado began her rise to fame at age 19, she won her title as Miss Venezuela representing Yaracuy. One year later, she became the fourth Venezuelan woman to win Miss Universe 1996. Her time as Miss Universe however was marked with negative coverage by the media as well as controversy due to the fact that she put on weight.
